The VMware Associate VMware Security syllabus spans 6 domains, headlined by VMware Security Solutions (25%), Security Fundamentals (20%), and Security Administration and Best Practices (10%). The full weighted outline is in the syllabus section above — our materials strictly follow it, and so should your study plan.

The 1V0-81.20 exam — formally the Associate VMware Security — is VMware's certification exam for validating professional skills with its technologies; passing it earns the VCTA-SEC 2021 certification, a Associate-level credential. It is popular among job seekers for a simple reason: employers trust vendor-issued proof of skill. It also opens the path toward VMware Certified Technical Associate - Security (VCTA-Security).

The 1V0-81.20 exam gives you 50 questions to complete within 90 minutes. That pacing is tighter than it looks on paper, and untimed practice will not reveal it. Rehearse with the ActualVCE Windows software or online engine in timed mode — repeating full-length mocks until your rhythm holds is what turns preparation time into passing margin.

Passing requires 300, and official registration costs USD 125. Remember the fee buys one attempt only — a retake is billed in full again. The budget-friendly approach is to measure yourself first: work through 56 practice questions at ActualVCE under timed conditions until you clear the passing mark consistently, and only then pay for the seat.

No formal prerequisite exam required. VMware recommends basic knowledge of virtualization, networking, and security concepts.

Vendor policies change from time to time, so before scheduling, confirm the current criteria on the official VMware exam page.
